Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Support (NICU)

Tiny baby hand

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Swedish is a vey busy and special place. 1 out of 10 babies born at Swedish will need specialized care in the NICU. As one of the only Level III nurseries in the region we care for over 900 babies a year. The thoughtful and expert care provided by the doctors and nurses makes a world of difference for the families.

A recent expansion, funded by philanthropy, increased our capacity to care for seriously ill newborns and babies by 50%. By adding these much-needed NICU beds, Swedish can care for the sickest newborns, as well as those requiring “transitional care.” These babies are fairly healthy, but are too unstable to remain on the delivery floor. Here, in the expanded NICU, they can be watched for around four to six hours to make sure they’re healthy enough to return to their mothers.

Your donations to the Swedish NICU help provide for on-going needs in the unit such as educational aids for parents and older siblings, new equipment like incubators and oxygen blenders. Your donations help the Swedish staff provide the very best care to our smallest patients and help make life better for babies.

"Mya spent 4 1/2 months in the NICU/ISCU and we went through plenty of ups and downs. I don't think we could have made it through with out all of the wonderful support from the Swedish team of doctors, nurses, staff and mentors." ~a grateful parent
